Middlesex to celebrate Juneteenth this weekend

A two-day Juneteenth celebration will be held this Saturday and Sunday in Saluda.

Sponsored by Game Changers, a coalition of local religious and civic organizations, the celebration includes a parade at 2 p.m. on Saturday and an outdoor celebration from 3-6 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday’s parade will start at Middlesex High School, proceed to and circle around the Middlesex Historic Court House, and return to the high school.

Leading the parade as grand marshals will be some of the oldest African-Americans in Middlesex County as “Mr. and Mrs. Juneteenth,” said a press release. Parade participants will be announced as they pass the courthouse. Food trucks and other vendors will be at the high school from noon until 5 p.m. The public is encouraged to come early to visit the vendors and then to watch the parade.
