Middlesex schools receive $10,000 in Dominion grants

Middlesex County Public Schools received a pair of grants totaling $10,000 from the Dominion Foundation through its Educational Grants Partnership Program, according to a release.

The division was awarded $5,000 to build a solar learning facility at Middlesex Elementary School The solar center will be constructed by Middlesex High School environmental science students and will be used as a teaching tool for the entire county.

St. Clare Walker Middle School also received $5,000. That grant will be used to help students understand environmental laws. Seventh graders will investigate the effectiveness of regulations imposed by the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. Students will also perform water testing and learn how changes in a watershed impact the health of an estuary.

Overall, Dominion awarded more than $326,000 this year in educational grants to schools in nine states. Since the program began in 1996, the utility company has awarded nearly $3 million in grants.
