Middlesex Museum holds program on preserving family history

“Preserving Family Papers and Photographs” will be the subject of a virtual program at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, sponsored by the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society, Inc.

Meg Hughes, Director of Collections and Chief Curator of The Valentine Museum in Richmond, will lead a discussion of practical ways to preserve family papers and photographs, a release said. Her talk will include environmental conditions, storage materials and display techniques to ensure that materials last for future generations. She will also discuss common dangers to avoid and tips on capturing family members’ memories.

Hughes has been with The Valentine Museum since 2004. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University and master’s in information from the University of Maryland. She manages the manuscript, book and photographic collections in The Valentine’s holdings.
