Middlesex beats Devils, 65-6, in season finale

The Mathews High School came to a disappointing end last Thursday night, as the cross-town rivals from Middlesex came to Ken Brown Field to hand the Devils a 65-6 loss.

Being completely out of second-string players, with a handful of starters injured, and JV starters on varsity out of playing quarters, the Devils had to make do with what they had against a team that Mathews had defeated 33-25 in the second week of the season.

The lone Mathews score came early in the game, with Stuart Anderson switching from his usual quarterback position to wide receiver, catching a one-handed 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jovan Johnson.

By halftime, Middlesex had pulled ahead, 36-6, and after scoring another touchdown in the opening minutes of the second half, a running clock was instituted for the remainder of the contest. Middlesex never let up, airing the ball out and scoring its last touchdown with time running out. When Anderson was playing quarterback, he had about 32 rushing yards....
