Middle Peninsula groups serve region’s veterans, community

The Middle Peninsula has a number of local organizations that are active in ensuring area veterans are honored, remembered and are properly taken care of. Below is a list of many of the local organizations that serve veterans, a brief description of their mission objectives, and when each group meets.

American Legion, Post 75

Located on Route 17, just south of Gloucester Court House, American Legion Post 75 has been a longtime gathering place for local active duty and veteran military members. The group meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The mission of the American Legion is to focus on service to veterans, service members and communities.

Post 75 was originally combined with Post 83 in Mathews, and several members decided to form a post in Gloucester for members who lived in that community. In 1949, Post 75 bought its current building along with over 40 acres adjacent to it and held its first meeting there in October of that year.
