Throughout the summer, the Gazette-Journal is featuring the many campgrounds in Gloucester and Mathews counties; places where old-fashioned family vacations are still enjoyed. This week: New Point RV Resort in Mathews.

For the beach lover, New Point RV Resort is the place to go.

Acquired in February 2013 by Sun RV Resorts, the campground includes 320 campsites, with 50 of those sites on the beachfront.

According to district manager Brian Cirelli, New Point is a family-themed campground with various activities available all summerlong that appeal to families.

Other than the beach, one of the most popular activities that campground offers is its new laser tag zone. The area features a nautical theme, offering plenty of cover and vantage points, such as a lighthouse and a ship to hide from or stalk opponents.

Cirelli said New Point also has a wide variety of outdoor planned activities, such as horseshoes and a new basketball court.
