Following his enlistment, Michael continued service to his country as a civil servant at Fort Eustis. In 1992, under “the” tree, Michael married his true love, Ruth Ann, and began their adventure as a family.

After retiring in 2003, never one to slow down, he drove buses for the Mathews County School Transportation Department. Michael also owned and operated Hutson’s Grass Cutting Service, serving many loved customers through the years, including the local fire departments. Most recently, Michael was fond of spending moments with fellow drivers at the gas pumps, pals at Chimney Corner, and especially his bus shop buddies, Clyde, Ronnie, and Bubba. One to be quick-witted, he left many with laughs and smiles throughout his life; he will be deeply missed.

In his rare free time, Michael spent many hours with his sons and held a special bond with his grandson, Dustin. He also enjoyed watching all his grandchildren play sports, traveling with Ruthie, and cheering for his UVA Cavalier football team.
