MICHAEL STEVEN BRANCH

Michael Steven Branch of Hayes, a loving and devoted son, a wonderful brother and uncle, and a special person to all of his friends and family, died May 22, 2015.

Michael was born Nov. 13, 1956 in Newport News. He graduated from Hampton High School and the University of Richmond. He then worked in Richmond, Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Boston before returning to Virginia to live in Gloucester. Michael had a festive and generous spirit. He made friends easily and was remembered for his huge heart, although he’d never admit to having one.

To say that he will be “missed” would be an insult to everything that his life represented. Truthfully, he brought life to all that he touched and he “added to…” without any effort. We are all for the better because of him and so much less without him.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, James E. Branch. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Edna and T.A. Ferrell; his brothers, Robert Branch and Charles Cole Jr. (Cheryl); his sisters, Neva Connaughton (Thom) and Linda Simmons; 12 nieces and nephews, and too many friends to name.

A memorial service conducted by the Rev. David Parker was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment will be private.

In memory of Michael, the family requests that you make a donation to National Public Radio, 1111 North Capital Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002 or the charity of your choice.
