Michael O’Kelly Connelly of Mathews, Va., died on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home. Mike was born on May 20, 1957, to Mead Lee Connelly Sr. and Elizabeth Anne Simmons Connelly of Martinsville, Va., who both predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lydia Tuck Connelly. Also surviving are his brothers, Mead Lee Connelly Jr. of Cumming, Ga., and James Robert Connelly (Katherine) of Collinsville, Va. Mike was also close to and survived by his cousins, Marcia Connelly Rhodes, Alvin Ray Connelly, and Margaret Connelly McCullough.

Surviving nieces and nephews include Susan Lisa Connelly (Charles), James Robert Connelly Jr., Pamela Connelly Hall (David), Colleen Barnes, and Patrick Barnes (Lydia). Great-nieces and -nephews are James Connelly III, Joshua Connelly, Hannah Connelly, Ruth Connelly, Jessica Franklin, Reid Franklin, and Zach Hall.

Mike retired from a successful professional career in the IT field, mostly in the insurance and banking industries in Richmond. In addition, Mike found a great deal of enjoyment in sports, especially golf. In high school, he lettered in both golf and football.

Mike also loved all animals and doted on his dogs and cats. In retirement, he fed deer, squirrels and birds and had a special rapport with his neighbors’ cows.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 1-2 p.m. at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, Va., with a memorial service to follow at 2 o’clock. Immediately after the service, a meal will be served in the social hall. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or to a charity of your choice.
