MHS wrestlers go 4-2 in dual meet action

The Mathews High School wrestling team fell to Lancaster and defeated the host Indians in a tri-meet last Wednesday at Northumberland High School. On Saturday, the Blue Devil wrestlers just missed out on a chance to compete in the finals of a 10-team dual tournament at Franklin High School.

 

Parker Thompson (138 lbs.), Tyler Zabel (152 lbs.), Austin Fravel (195 lbs.) and Isaiah Maultsby (220 lbs.) each went 2-0 last Wednesday, as Mathews defeated Northumberland 42-33 and lost to Lancaster, 39-28.

 

Thompson, Fravel and Maultsby each went 4-0 on Saturday, as well as Sam Moore (132 lbs.) as the Devils racked up wins over Southampton (48-18), Essex (54-15) and Sussex (59-12) before losing to Lancaster (39-36). If the Mathews wrestlers had defeated Lancaster, they would have won their pool of the five-team round robin and advanced to the finals.
