The Mathews High School wrestling team opened up its season on Saturday, hosting a tri-meet against King William and York. The Blue Devils won both contests, defeating King William by a 35-23 margin and besting York, 39-30.
Five Mathews wrestlers—Lexi Deagle (113 lbs.), Joshua Rosadino (120 lbs.), Tyler Schaller (138 lbs.), Cody Deagle (145 lbs.) and Brady Wright (182 lbs.)—were undefeated on the day.
The Devils’ next event was a tri-meet at home on Wednesday, Jan. 20 vs. Franklin and New Kent B. On Saturday, Mathews will host a wrestling triangle against Gloucester and Poquoson.
