MHS wrestlers go 1-2 in quad meet

The Mathews High School wrestling team went 1-2 in a quad meet last Wednesday at Peninsula Catholic and placed 11th out of 16 teams at this past weekend’s Norfolk Academy Classic.

In the quad meet, the Blue Devil wrestlers defeated Norfolk Christian, 46-12, and lost to Dinwiddie by criteria after tying, 39-39. Mathews also lost to the hosts from Peninsula Catholic, 38-33.

At the Norfolk Academy Classic, Joe Hall (13-2 on the season) was the champion at 220 lbs., Caleb Sadler (15-1 on the season) the runner-up at 120 and Haden Higginbotham (106), Caleb Johnson (138) and Justin Sorey (145) all placed fifth, according to head coach Josh Schaible.

The MHS wrestling team returns to action following the Christmas break on Wednesday, Jan. 4, with a tri-meet at Northampton High School. ...
