Eight of the nine wrestlers from Mathews High attending last weekend’s Ram Rumble Invitational at Lafayette High School scored points, helping the team to a 10th place finish.
Three Blue Devil wrestlers—Billy Bower, Caleb Miller and Austin Fravel—went on to place in their respective weight classes. Bower (170 lbs.) finished the weekend with a 4-1 record, which was good enough for third place. He won a 9-4 decision over a Warwick wrestler in the consolation finals.
Miller (120 lbs.) and Fravel (195 lbs.) both placed fourth with identical 3-2 records. Miller lost to an opponent from Kecoughtan and Fravel lost to a Chancellor wrestler in the consolation finals.
Other MHS wrestlers picking up wins were Sean Rhodes (126 lbs., 1-2), Sam Moore (132 lbs., 1-2), Tyler Zabel (145 lbs., 1-2), Isaiah Maultsby (220 lbs., 1-2) and Bill Riley (285 lbs., 1-2).
