MHS volleyball teams sweep King and Queen

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Tidewater District and 14-0 overall after sweeping King and Queen last Thursday three sets to none.

Although the Tigers have improved in recent years, the Lady Devils were just too much for them to handle. Mathews dominated with the Tigers never making it to 15 points in any of the sets.

The Devils worked with several different lineups throughout the match. Kai McCann had a breakout game contributing many kills. Hailey Abernathy ran the back row for Mathews with her hustle plays and great passing.

Shelby Ware and Jackie Stewart contributed assists for the Devils, and really took charge of the offense. Whitney Eriksen came out with powerful serving and good passing in the back row.

The jayvee Devils also didn’t have too much trouble with King and Queen in last Thursday’s contest, winning by scores of 25-13 and 25-10.
