MHS volleyball opens season with two wins

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team is 2-0 following opening week wins over Lafayette and Windsor.

Last Thursday night, the Lady Devils traveled to Williamsburg to take on the Lafayette Rams for the second time. The two teams faced off in the MHS Jamboree over a week ago, but this time it was an entirely different game.

In the Jamboree, the Lady Devils dominated, taking two games easily from the Rams, but in their first official match of the season, the Devils were caught slightly off guard and had to step up their game fast.

The Devils struggled a little with getting a good pass, but took the first set 25-20. They fell into a hole in the second set, falling 23-25. In the third set, the Devils played their game and took the Rams 25-21. In the next set, Lafayette won 27-25. Going into a fifth and deciding set, the Devils overtook the Rams 15-8 for the win.
