MHS volleyball improves to 5-0

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team added a pair of wins over Northumberland and Charles City this week to move to 5-0 on the season.

Last Thursday, MHS downed the Indians in straight sets, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-20. Although Mathews controlled most of the match, Northumberland fought hard and gave the Lady Devils a good contest.

Victoria Bing led the night in kills for Mathews with 11. Belle Massimino and Anne Stewart each had six kills while Hallie Duncan had four and Madisyn Jackson and Tori Hicks each had three.

Mia Gillenwater led in digs with 12 followed by Keely Crittenden with 10, Madison South with nine, and Josey Bauby with six. South also had 24 assists, while Sarah Brown was credited with six.

Mathews traveled to Charles City on Tuesday where the girls easily defeated the Panthers, 25-8, 25-8 and 25-11. The Devils travel to King William tonight. They will participate in the Endless Summer tournament in Virginia Beach on Saturday where they will play five matche...
