MHS volleyball hosts Jamboree Saturday

The Mathews High School volleyball season gets underway on Saturday morning when the Lady Devils host the 2017 Mathews Jamboree.

Mathews will face off against several much larger Peninsula District schools. Other teams scheduled to compete are Gloucester, Warwick, Menchville and Woodside.

The tournament begins at 9 with the host Lady Devils facing off with Gloucester. Each team will play two sets, regardless of the outcome. Per VHSL rules, there will be a $5 admission charge; spectators may reenter. Concessions will be available, including sandwiches, drinks and snacks.

Last year, the Mathews High School volleyball team made it all the way to the Group 1A state championship match, falling to the Rappahannock County Panthers for the title. ...
