After a long break, the Lady Blue Devils traveled to Middlesex to compete with the Chargers last Thursday.
First up were the junior varsity teams. The game started slow for the Blue Devils with the team only scoring three points in the first quarter, with the Chargers scoring seven. The second quarter was much of the same with the Blue Devils only scoring one more point, not being able to keep up with the Chargers. The score was 16-4 at halftime.
Coming out of the locker rooms both teams were ready to fight. Mathews fought but failed to catch up, still allowing the Chargers to score. The final score of the game was 29-15, with Middlesex taking the win. The top scorer of the game for Mathews was Adriana Forrest with seven points.
Next up were the varsity teams. The game was off to a great start for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils didn’t let the Chargers score in the first quarter and played good defense in the second quarter. The Chargers only scored four points in the first half, as Mathews held a 13-4 halftime lead. In the second half, the Chargers made it hard for the Blue Devils to score but in spite the Blue Devils still scored 19 points. Mathews won the game, 32-22. The top scorers were Grayson Griffith with 14 points and Lula Duff with seven points.
Today, Thursday, Jan. 9, the Lady Devils host the Northampton Yellow Jackets, with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m.
