MHS track teams place second in Conference 42

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finished as runners up in the Conference 42 tournament, held last Thursday at Charles City High School.

Among Mathews competitors, first-place winners for individual events were: Jordan Jenkins (1,600m and 3,200m), Avery Betz (3,200m), Rileigh Betz (300m hurdles), Casey Kelly (shot put), Stuart Anderson Jr. (200m, long jump and triple jump) and Jalen Thomas (900m).

The MHS boys’ 4x800 team broke the school record with a time of 6:02 and the boys’ 4x100 team also broke the record with a time of 45 seconds flat.

Anderson was named the MVP for the boys with a total of 44 points.

Many of the MHS track and field athletes will be moving on to compete in the VHSL Region 1A meet, which is being held today at Sussex. ...
