The Mathews Indoor Track and Field boys and girls teams competed at the Suffolk Stars Invitational at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton this past Friday and Saturday.  MHS team members had personal bests and many athletes qualified for the state and regional meets.

Notable performances by the girls’ team included Rileigh Betz, who qualified for regionals in the 1,600m run with a new personal best of 5:56; the girls’ 4x800m relay team (Maddy Hobert, Lizzie Stokes, Lauren Bland and Reilly Price), who qualified for regionals with an overall time of 12:18; and Casey Kelly, who qualified for states in the shot put with a new season best of 30 feet 6.5 inches.

For the boys, Justin Adams ran his way into first place in the 1A/2A state rankings setting a new personal best in the 3,200m run with a 9:58 and placed fifth overall.
