MHS track teams compete at Northumberland opener

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at Northumberland High School last week in their first meets of the outdoor season. They competed against Washington and Lee, Lancaster and the host Northumberland Indians.

Overall the teams did well as the boys placed second and the girls placed fourth. Notable performances on the girls’ side included the 4x800m relay team (Lizzie Stokes, Skylar Lewis, Maddy Hobert and Lauren Bland), which placed second with a time 12:27; JV runner Caroline Bray, who came in fifth in the 800m run with a time of 3:01; Alyssa Curko, who came in second in the 3200m run with a time of 14:41, and Rileigh Betz, who placed second in the 1600m run in 6:14.
