The Mathews High School track teams competed in their last regular season meet last Thursday at King William High School against Middlesex, Essex, Washington and Lee, and King William. The MHS girls won their meet and the boys placed second.

Notable highlights for the girls included Lizzie Stokes, who got personal bests in the 800-meter run, and 100m and 300m hurdles. Lauren Bland and Ellie Gale led the 100m hurdles with times of 18.17 and 18.15 respectively.

For the boys, Jalen Thomas placed second in the 1600m run with an impressive time of 5:02, and Corey Cox won the discus with a throw of 108’4”. The MHS boys and girls teams will travel to West Point today for the Tidewater District Championship. ...
