MHS track teams compete at Charles City meet

The Mathews High School boys’ track team placed fourth out of 10 teams competing in last Thursday’s meet at Charles City High School, while the MHS girls came in eighth. Meanwhile, the MHS JV girls placed third out of eight teams in the meet’s junior varsity contest.

For the boys, Donovan Forrest placed first in both the 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash, with times of 15.65 seconds and 11.42 seconds, respectively. He placed second in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 23.56 seconds.

The boys’ 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams also won their events. The 4×400 team of Gavin Dustin, Adam Greve, Seth James and Keith Taylor posted a time of 3:45.25, while the 4×800 team of Jon Jenkins, Samuel Miranda, Dominic Winters and James

Allen Morgan finished their race in 9:52.39. Taylor came in second in the triple jump with a leap of 39’1”, while Dustin placed third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:01.02.

Placing first for the girls were Nora Suthard (in the triple jump, 35’4”) and Shalen Deese (high jump, 4’2”). Suthard also came in third in the 300-meter hurdles (54.94 seconds), while Elizabeth Moore placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:55.77).

JV girls placing first in their events included Adrianna Forrest (100-meter dash in 13.81 seconds; 200-meter dash in 29.43 seconds; and long jump, 14’9”) and Meredith Salvadori (400-meter dash, 1:17.31). Kate Smalls placed second in the high jump (4’4”) and third in the 400-meter dash (1:12.5).

The MHS track teams will compete again today, Thursday, April 24, at Middlesex High.
