MHS track teams beat Pointers, Tigers

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to West Point April 5 for a regular season meet against King and Queen and the host Pointers. The MHS girls won overall with 69 points.

Notable performers were Casey Kelly in shot put with a mark of 29’1”; Lauren Bland won the triple jump with a mark of 25’3”, and the 4x800m relay team (Lizzie Stokes, Bland, Skylar Lewis, and Alyssa Curko) won with a time of 12:32.

The boys’ team won with 91 points. The MHS boys won every event in the meet with the exception of the shot put, 100m and 200m dash. A few notables were Stuart Anderson Jr. who won the high jump with a mark of 5’8”; Jalen Thomas won the 1600m and 800m run with times of 5:03 and 2:15, and Hunter Wright won the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.23.
