MHS track second overall at tri-meet

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in their second season meet last Wednesday against the Middlesex Chargers and the West Point Pointers. The contest culminated in a second-place overall finish for both teams, with the boys scoring 74 points, only four behind Middlesex with 78, and the girls scoring 61 points, falling to West Point with 69.

In the girls’ meet, freshman Shyanne Gordon continued to impress in both running and jumping events, taking second overall in both the long jump with a jump of 12’11.5", and the 300m hurdles, with a time of 59.9 seconds, and winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.76 seconds.

Senior captain Jessie Nelson won the high jump with a height of 4’4", as well as fourth overall in the long jump, with a leap of 12’9".
