MHS track finishes regular season at Hampton meet

The Mathews High School Indoor track and field team finished its regular season Tuesday in a 12-team meet in Hampton at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Nora Suthard won the triple jump with a personal best of 33’10.5” and placed fourth in the long jump, also with a personal best of 16’1” and fifth in the 55m in a state-qualifying time of 7.75 seconds. Junior Haley Hoell finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump with a personal best of 13’9”. Freshmen Jordan Sadeq and Lauren Johnson recorded personal bests in the long jump (Sadeq) and 55m and 500m (Johnson).

On the boys’ side, junior Gavin Dustin won the 500m and set a personal best in the high jump. Junior Keith Taylor won the triple jump, placed third in the high jump and second in the long jump with a season’s best and state qualifying 19’11.” Sophomores Chance Higginbotham came in sixth in the 1600m and Adam Dustin placed sixth in the 500m.
