MHS track competes at West Point meets

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams placed first and third, respectively, out of five teams competing in a meet at West Point High School on April 30.

The MHS boys compiled 117 points to win the meet, while the MHS girls scored 28 team points.

On the JV team, Melody Smith competed in the 1600m run with a time of 6:53. Sarah Taylor ran the 300m hurdles in 55.50 seconds. Cameron McDonald ran the 400m dash in 1:04.

On the girls’ team, Sarah Fitzgerald ran the 100m hurdles in 19.60 seconds and the 300m hurdles in 1:01. Victoria Palaimo jumped 4’8” in high jump. Katelynn Blake jumped 4’6” in high jump. Megan Johnson jumped 4’4” in high jump, 13’10” in long jump, and 27’3” in triple jump. Lanazia Whalen threw 48’1” in the discus and 20’4” in the shot put.
