MHS track competes at K&Q meet

The Mathews High School track and field team traveled to King and Queen High School on April 14 to compete against Rappahannock, Lancaster, Norfolk Christian and the host Tigers.

Returning from spring break, the Devils came back strong, excited to get back on the track. The girls placed second in the meet and the boys placed fourth.

For the MHS girls, Shalan Deese placed seventh in the 200-meter dash and first in the high jump. Kate Small (JV) placed third in the 400-meter dash, second in long jump, and second in triple jump. Elizabeth Moore placed first in the 800-meter dash and first in the 3,200-meter run.

Jordan Sadeg placed first in the 100-meter hurdles, second in the 300-meter hurdles, third in long jump, and third in triple jump. Nora Suthard placed first in the 300-meter hurdles, first in long jump, and first in triple jump.

For the boys, Trent Hudson placed ninth in the 200-meter dash. Julian Wyatt (JV) placed 14th in the 200-meter dash and 14th in long jump. Justin Pressnell placed fourth in the 400-meter dash, placed seventh in high jump, placed third in long jump, and placed third in triple jump. Samuel Miranda placed second in the 1,600-meter run. Ivar Golden placed first in the 3,200-meter run.

Carter Coles placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, and seventh in the long jump. Jacob Johnson placed ninth in the high jump, 11th in the long jump, and fourth in the triple jump. Lastly, the boys’ 4×400-meter team placed third overall.

The Blue Devils compete again today, Thursday, April 23, at Northumberland High School where they hope to run, jump and throw their way to victory.
