MHS track athletes take part in district championships

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in the Tidewater District Track and Field Championships last Thursday at Charles City High School.

For the girls, freshman Jordan Sadeg placed fourth in the long jump and sixth in 100H. Lorena Carballo placed first in the 3200m. Nora Suthard placed first in the triple jump, second in the long jump, third in the high jump, fourth in the 300H, second in the 200m and fourth in the 100m.

For the boys, Keith Taylor placed first in the long jump, second in the triple jump, second in the 400m, and third in the high jump. Donovan Forrest placed first in the 110H, second in the 300H, second in the 100m, and fourth in the long jump. Chance Higginbotham placed first in the 3200m, with Jon Jenkins placing third. Jordyn Cosby was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Salvador Cardenas, Sam Miranda and Seth James placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1600m.
