MHS track athletes compete in district meet

Mathews High School track and field athletes competed in the Tidewater District Championship, which was held last Thursday at Charles City High School.

Sophomore Keith Taylor finished fourth in the boys’ 400-meter dash and high jump, fifth in the long jump, and first in triple jump. Taylor has already qualified for the state championships in all events.

Donovan Forrest won the 110-meter hurdles, second in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Seth James and Gavin Dustin finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,600-meter run, qualifying for regionals. Sophomore Jerrell Johnson also moved on to regionals with a fourth-place finish. Jordyn Cosby finished second overall in the boys’ discus, moving to regional competition.

Freshman Jon Jenkins placed second in the boys’ 3,200-meter run. Mathews also saw their boys’ 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams advance.
