The Mathews High School track and field team traveled to King William last Thursday to compete in the district championship. The competition also included teams from Charles City, King and Queen, Middlesex and West Point.
The girls placed third and the boys fourth overall. There have been high temperatures recently, but luckily on Thursday the temperatures dropped and gave the competitors great conditions.
Nora Suthard placed seventh in the 100-meter dash, second in the 300-meter hurdles, second in the long jump, and first in the triple jump. Elizabeth Moore placed second in the 800-meter dash and second in the 1,600-meter run. Beanie Rowe placed seventh in the 1,600-meter dash. Jordan Sadeg placed fifth in the 100-meter dash, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, 12th in the long jump, and sixth in the triple jump. Shalan Deese placed third in the high jump. The girls 4×400 meter relay, which included Moore, Rowe, Sadeg and Suthard, placed second.
Boys’ results
Justin Pressnell placed third in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the long jump. Adam Greve placed fourth in the 400-meter dash. Trent Hudson placed 10th in the 400-meter dash and 10th in the long jump. Jon Jenkins placed second in the 3,200-meter run. Ivar Golden third in the 3200-meter run. Adam Dustin placed 11th in the long jump. Jacob Johnson placed 10th in the discus and 12th in the shot put. Samuel Miranda placed 13th in the shot put. The boys’ 4×400 meter relay team, which placed first, included Greve, Hudson, Chance Higginbotham and Pressnell. The boys’ 4×800-meter relay team, which placed second, which included Greve, Dustin, Jenkins and Golden.
The Devils travel to Charles City today, Thursday, May 28, to compete in the regional championship. As their season comes closer to an end, the senior Devils attempt to make the biggest impact they can with the time that is left.
