MHS track achieving success

The 2021 spring Mathews High School track and field team has achieved much success this year with the little time the athletes had training due to COVID-19 cutting this year’s sport season short, according to head coach Tony Forrest.

“However, with the little time we had, the boys’ team currently has an undefeated record while the girls’ team has either been first or second place in the meets overall,” he said. Forrest, along with assistant coaches Amanda Rodriguez, and C.J. Kelly have been pleased with the effort their athletes have been putting in on the track.

Recent honorable mentions on the boys’ side showing their hard work was at a track meet that was held at Northumberland on May 20, with Aiden West placing second in the boys’ 100m dash with a time of 12.24; Brian Robinson placing first in the boys’ 800m run with a 2:17; Grayson Camp placing first in the 3,200m run with a 12:17; Ja’marri Henderson placing first in the boys’ 300m hurdles and the boys’ 110m hurdles, and Ca...
