MHS tennis sweeps conference

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team captured all three Conference 42 titles during the past week—team champions, doubles champions and singles champion.

In the semifinals, the West Point doubles team of Tia Lee and Kathy Michos faced Middlesex Hannah Jackson and Bryana Rios. It was neck-and-neck as these teams were competing to earn a spot in the finals. The West Point Pointers finished with a score of 7-5, 6-4 to move on to the next round. 

The Lady Devils’ top-ranked doubles team of Morgan Johnson and Ashley Hudgins defeated Lee and Michos by a score of 6-4, 6-0 in the finals last Wednesday to earn the Conference 42 Doubles Championship crown.

The Conference 42 Singles Tournament was held the following day on the Mathews High School courts.
