MHS teams take on Colonial Beach

The Mathews High School varsity and junior varsity football teams had one last pre-season tune-up this past Friday before this week’s season openers.

The Blue Devil squads traveled to Colonial Beach to face the Drifters; JV played first, followed by the varsity contest.

The JV teams kept the ball in the same spot and ran their plays for a little over an hour. Varsity moved the ball after every play and the coaches were sure to have the team’s final scrimmage very much like a real game except that the quarters were slightly shorter.

For the JV Blue Devils, quarterback Jovan Johnson scored a rushing touchdown, completed a pass, and had three tackles on defense at safety. Tyrese Brooks at cornerback made two tackles. Tylon Forrest executed four tackles as the defensive tackle. Joshua Monasterly had three tackles as the defensive end.
