MHS teams head into post-season play

Mathews High School sports teams head into regional tournament play this week, beginning with Monday’s tennis match against Franklin (see related story).

The MHS varsity soccer team was scheduled to travel Wednesday to Franklin to face the Broncos in the first round of the Region A tournament. The winner travels to Rappahannock on Friday to face the top-seeded Raiders.

Also on Wednesday, the MHS softball team traveled to Surry to face the Cougars. If Mathews wins, the Lady Devils will travel on Friday to face Rappahannock.

The Mathews High School track and field team travels today to Sussex Central to compete in the regional tournament.

The MHS baseball team has a first-round bye in the Region A tournament. The Devils will host the winner of Wednesday’s Washington and Lee/West Point game at 5 p.m. Friday. Admission to this game is $7. ...
