The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at the VHSL Group 1A/2A State Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Radford University on Friday and Saturday.

Many from the track teams qualified at the regionals to earn a spot in the state meet. They were: Rileigh Betz, Maddy Hobert, Lizzie Stokes, Lauren Bland, Ellie Gale, Alyssa Curko, Caleb Carson, Jalen Thomas, Nicholas Mann, Sam Moore, Hunter Wright, Elijah Willis, Cody Kelly, Jesse Ingram, Marcus Robinson, Justin Adams and Jordan Jenkins.

For the girls, Gale placed seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.06, Betz placed seventh in the 1,600m run with a time of 6:02.49, and the girls’ 4x800m relay team of Stokes, Bland, Hobert and Curko placed 11th with a new school record of 11:50.37.
