A week’s worth of Mathews High School athletic events had to be cancelled and rescheduled as a result of the division closing last week as Hurricane Florence threatened to hit the region.
Blue Devil sports resumed on Tuesday with a golf match against New Kent at the Golf Club at Brickshire, as well as the varsity/JV volleyball contest at Middlesex.
Yesterday, the junior varsity football team traveled to Essex High School to face the Trojans and cross country hosted a meet against Essex, Lancaster, Rappahannock and West Point at Beaverdam Park.
Tonight, the volleyball team hosts Carver Academy in a varsity-only match, beginning at 6 o’clock. And Friday, the MHS varsity football team travels to Colonial Beach. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ...
