MHS soccer wins Conference 42 title

The Mathews High School soccer team won the Conference 42 tournament title on Friday, defeating Middlesex, 2-0, but fell on Monday night in the opening round of regional play, losing to Northampton, 3-1.

Mathews traveled to West Point on Friday for the conference championship game. The game was a quick and sweet victory for the Devils, propelling them into the Region 1A East tournament. Mathews was able to dominate the field, keeping possession of the ball for most of both halves, with goals scored by Kevin Jenkins (assisted by Chandler Brown) and Adam Wade (assisted by Mark Wilson).

Following the game, the top players in the conference were recognized. Scooter Ransone was named Conference 42 Player of the Year and Ricky Rutter and Glen Alexander won first-team defense. Jordan Bozza and Tim White achieved first-team midfielder, and Kevin Jenkins and Adam Wade got the first-team striker award.
