MHS soccer teams face Pointers

Mathews High School soccer programs faced a challenging series of matches against West Point High School last Wednesday, yielding mixed results across the JV and varsity levels.

In the JV contest, the Blue Devils fell to the Pointers, 6-4. Brayden Jergensen scored the team’s first goal, and Marvin Ouma added a hat trick to the scoreboard.

The varsity girls’ soccer team also faced a difficult outing against the Pointers, dropping their match, 8-0. The Blue Devils held the score to 5-0 through the first half, but were unable to find the net, resulting in a scoreless finish. The varsity boys’ match was a defensive battle that extended through 80 minutes of play and two overtime periods, ending in a 0-0 tie.

Following those games, the varsity boys’ team traveled to King and Queen High School on Monday and secured a 2-1 victory over the Tigers with goals from Eric Cardenas and Stanley Ouma.

All three teams were scheduled to host King William High School on Wednesday. Following that match, the varsity girls will play at home against Poquoson today, Thursday, April 30, and the JV and varsity boys will host Rappahannock on Friday.
