MHS soccer shuts out Panthers, 10-0

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ soccer team picked up its first win of the season Monday, shutting out the Charles City Panthers, 10-0. The junior varsity did not play.

Nathan Jenkins broke the ice for Mathews, scoring the first goal around 20 minutes into the match. Not long after, Sawyer Hutson scored off an intercepted pass on Charles City’s defensive half. Lucas Nunnally also managed to put one in the back of the net following a pass into the box from Will Hutcheson.

Tyler Jackson came away with the ball off a ricochet and turned it into another goal for the Blue Devils. Hutcheson scored on a breakaway, led by a perfect chip pass from Hutson at half-field. Calvin Kramer put in the final goal of the half, finishing on a cross from Jenkins.
