MHS soccer gets revenge against Rappahannock Raiders

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team had its revenge against the Rappahannock Raiders on Monday with a 5-2 win on the Raiders’ home turf, following a disappointing 2-0 loss to them the previous Wednesday at home.

The Devils didn’t let the loss faze them as they arrived with enthusiasm and energy, putting in two early goals, one by junior forward Justin Jenkins and one by Kelly Nelson, in the first half.

After being scored on, the Devils pushed more offensively and were able to pick up three more goals to maintain their lead on the Raiders, with two goals by senior midfielder Jacob Johnson and one by the team’s leading scorer, P.J. Johnson, in the second half. The Devils kept attacking on offense while focusing on the defensive end to keep the Raiders away from the net.

The team travels to Windsor today for a non-district game against the Dukes.
