MHS soccer falls to King William, 4-1

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team fell to the visiting King William Cavaliers last Wednesday, 4-1.

The game started out pretty well for the Devils, with the Mathews defense managing to keep King William’s offense at bay. The game looked evenly matched for the first 20 minutes, when the Cavs struck for their first goal. Another goal shortly before halftime put the visitors up, 2-0.

The Cavaliers continued to dominate in the second half, widening the gap to 4-0 when Kevin Jenkins finally got the ball to the back of King William’s net to prevent a shutout.

In the junior varsity contest, Mathews and King William battled to a 2-2 tie. Mathews took an early lead, with goals scored by Edwin Hudgins and Nathan Jenkins. The score remained 2-0 for most of the first half; however, the Cavaliers managed to get on the scoreboard just before halftime.
