MHS scores straight set victories over W&L, K&Q

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up a pair of straight set victories this week, beating the visiting Washington and Lee Eagles on Monday night and defeating King and Queen Tuesday on the road.

For the second time this season, Mathews defeated the Eagles in straight sets, winning this time by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-16. During this game, there were many long rallies and exciting kills made by both teams.

Emily West had the most aces with three followed closely by Connie Johnson and Grace Bandurco each with two, and Aleya McCurry with one. Bandurco had the most assists of the night with nine. Other assists included Kristen Frank with four and McCurry with three. Offensively, McCurry had the most kills with five, while Lois Beale and Jordan Hunley each had three, and Frank, Jada Ashberry, Joice Small, Meghan Pruitt, West and Olivia Ashbaugh each had one.
