The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won last Wednesday’s Conference 42 championships at Beaverdam Park. The teams went on to compete in the Region 1A East Championships on Tuesday, with the girls winning the race and the MHS boys placing second.
The teams’ performances in regionals earned them bids to the state meet on Nov. 13 and 14 at Great Meadow, The Plains.
Mathews hosted last week’s conference meet, which the boys won by a score of 26 points against West Point (60), Cumberland (64) and Middlesex (87). The girls won with a shutout score of 15 points. Second place was Middlesex with 60 points; following was West Point with 63 points.
