MHS runners win Beaverdam meet; next contest is in Mechanicsville

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won their meets last Thursday at Gloucester’s Beaverdam Park.

The girls posted a team score of 32, beating King William (43) and Middlesex (53), while the boys scored a 20 to defeat King William (59) and Middlesex (74). Rappahannock High School runners also competed in the meet.

For the girls, MHS runner Abbie Hudgins came in first for the team and third overall with a time of 22:45. She was followed by Jaysen Hall (23:27), Rileigh Betz (23:40) and Avery Betz (24:10). Next to cross the line for the Blue Devils were Reilly Price (25:22), Caroline Bray (25:37) and Kayla Stearns (25:37). The final Mathews group to finish included Kamryn Blake (25:45), Zoe Goodwin (25:47) and Caroline Evans (29:25).
