MHS runners perfect in team competition

Both the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams of Mathews High School remained perfect in competition this past week. The Blue Devils hosted fellow schools Middlesex, Rappahannock and King William at Beaverdam Park last Thursday.

The girls’ race began first on the fairly warm afternoon. A member of the Middlesex team was the first girl to cross the line, with a winning time of 23:05. Next to cross the line was a pair of Mathews runners—Brittany Ottarson (24:16) and Abbie Hudgins (24:16). The parade of Blue Devil runners continued as Avery Betz (24:41), Jade Davis (25:14), Zoe Goodwin (25:36) and Jaysen Hall (26:03) all completed the course.

Next to finish was the King William number one, with a time of 26:32. Close behind were Caroline Bray (26:45) and Kamryn Blake (28:05). Rappahannock’s lead runner finished the course with a time of 30:44 and King William’s number five crossed the line at 32:04. Not far behind were Mathews eighth graders Lizzie De...
