MHS runners dominate Indians, Pointers and Cavaliers

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams dominated again last week to defeat the homestanding Northumberland Indians as well as West Point and King William.

The boys’ squad crushed its opponents, winning with a perfect score of 15 points to West Point (55), Northumberland (82) and King William (88). The girls’ squad won with a score of 34 over Northumberland (52), West Point (58) and King William (80).

A difficult course couldn’t stop the Mathews boys from taking over the race. They placed their top five runners, first through fifth, as follows: Tucker Blackwell (19:58), Phillip Machen (20:14), Sam Jasinski (20:14), Nick Brown (20:17) and Jalen Thomas (20:29). Jayvee runner Caleb Carson (20:51, 10th) also had an impressive race.
