MHS runners compete at Northumberland track meet

The Mathews High School track and field team travelled to Northumberland High School last Thursday to compete against teams from Essex, King William, Lancaster, Westmoreland and Northumberland.

Starting with girls’ team, Kate Small (JV) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash, sixth in 300-meter hurdles, second in high jump, 10th in long jump, and third in triple jump. Elizabeth Moore placed first in the 3,200-meter run. Nora Suthard placed fourth in 300-meter hurdles, second in long jump, and first in triple jump.

Shalan Deese placed first in the high jump. Deese, Allean Rowe, Moore and Suthard were a part of the 4×400-meter relay team that placed second overall.

For the boys, Lars Golden (JV) placed 21st in the 100-meter dash. Julian Wyatt (JV) placed 19th in the 200-meter dash. Adam Greve placed fifth in the 400-meter dash. Trent Hudson placed 12th in the 400-meter run. Jon Jenkins placed first in the 3200-meter run. Ivar Golden placed second in the 3,200-meter run. Carter Coles placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, ninth in the 300-meter hurdles, and eleventh in the long jump. Adam Dustin placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, third in the high jump, ninth in the long jump, and fourth in triple jump. Dustin, Ivar Golden, Jenkins and Greve were a part of the 4×800-meter relay that placed first.

The Devils will compete again on Friday at Middlesex High School with field events starting at 4:30 p.m. and track events starting at 5 o’clock.
