MHS rowers compete in Darrell Winslow Regatta

The Mathews High School crew traveled to Northern Virginia on Saturday for its first Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association race of the season at Sandy Run Regional Park, Occoquan.

The Darrell Winslow Regatta consisted of 30 teams racing and 220 entries. This regatta was the third of six in a series that will culminate in the state championship events to be held on May 5 and 12.

Mathews rowers James Raha and Hunter Morton were the first to race in the men’s senior single competing against J.E.B. Stuart and Great Bridge. Raha took the blue ribbon by open water and Morton placed third right after the boat from Stuart.

The men’s senior double with Fletcher Rich and Sebastian Knebl also won its event by 40 seconds which is almost a sixth of the course.
