MHS marching band succeeds in fall competitions

The Mathews High School Marching Blue Devils have participated in several competitions this fall, succeeding in each event.

On Oct. 2, the marching band competed in its first competition since the fall of 2019. The competition was part of the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative and took place at Warhill High School in Wanner Stadium.

Ten different ensembles competed in their own respective classes, determined by the size of the group. The bands ranged from 30 students to over 150. While first place went to Wilson High School in Class 1A, Mathews came in a very close second, scoring only three points lower than Wilson.
